Reading Assignment 3
Uncle Pumblechook shows hospitality to Pip when he allows him to stay at his house the night before he goes to Miss Havisham's house. Uncle Pumblechook must care for Pip, since he let him stay at his house. Pip's first impression of Miss Havisham is very unusual. She is dressed in a white wedding dress and her house is very weird. The clocks in he house are stopped all at the same time and she has a rotten wedding cake in the dining room with bugs all over it. Pip wants everyone to think that his trip was grand, so he lies to his family and said he had fun, even though he didn't. Pip and Joe go to a local bar, where Pip gets starred at by a man. Pip notices that the man is stirring his drink with the file that he gave the convict in the marshes. Pip gets very scarred.
