Reading Assignment 5

When Pip arrives in London he expects it to look beautiful but it is the total opposite. The roads are disgusting and its very ugly. People who break that laws are being punished right on the streets in front of everyone. Pip decides to take rowing lessons, because they need a way to get Provis out of England. He practices everyday on the river by Herbert's house, so they can get Provis out without any suspicion. Pip feels a little awkward when he goes to Wemmick's house. He notices that Wemmick acts different at his house than he does at the office on business. He doesnt joke around and takes everything serious at the office, but at home he is more laid back.

Reading Assignment 4

Miss Havisham expresses her concern for Pip's future by showing him how to be a gentleman. Dolge Orlick is an employee for Joe. Dolge and Mrs. Joe get in an arguement one day and Mrs. Joe feels that Joe should stand up for her in her honor of being married to her. Joe jumps in and starts fighting with Orlick. Mrs. Joe was attacked by an intruder and had several injuries, so Biddy came and helped Mrs. Joe around while she is hurt, since she is incapable of caring for herself. Everyone believes that Orlick is the one that hurt Mrs. Joe. A lawyer known as Mr. Jaggers, tells Pip that he has a secret benefactor. Pip suspects Miss Havisham as his benefactor.
