Reading Assignment 6
Pip, Startop. Drummel and Herbert go to Jaggers house for dinner. Jaggers is very interested in Drummel and talks to him all night at dinner. Jaggers prefers Drummel's company over Pip and Startop's is because he likes how Drummle is all about society. Drummle is not an intelligent man and his life revolves around what happens in society. He thinks Drummel has a dark side and that Pip should stay clear of him. Molly which is Jaggers housekeeper has a bad past. She is said to have murder a person and was in jail for a long time. When she got out of jail, she became Jaggers housekeeper. Pip knows Molly reminds him of someone, but it takes him a while to figure out who it is. He realizes that it's Estella and finds out that Molly is Estella's biological mother. Pip said in England when Joe was coming to visit, that he would "pay to keep him away". Meaning he didn't want Joe around him. I disagree with Joe when he says "awful dull" because he has changed greatly. His life isn't dull anymore and it has blossomed out. When Pip is waiting for Estella's coach to return to London, Dickens uses foreshadowing. He has Pip as a little boy again and him remembering his past times and how everything has changed. I agree with Estella that Miss Havisham's revenge on all men is wrong, because one man left her on the alter, not all men are rude and breaks womans hearts.
